Conspiracy theory says...

Bilic playing Carroll to get him fit...dispel injury fears...shop window to move him out for a fee in January...

Likely buyers...Desperate Toon...Sunderland...

Sullivan ...words in Bilic's ear...

Nudge...Nudge...Wink...Wink...Know what I mean...

I really enjoyed the match - thought we tried just about everything to get the win- they also had a couple of gilt edged chances.

Collins, Cressell, Obiang, Antonio, Kouyate all had good games- Zarate was MoTM for me

We'd have lost that game last year- same as Man U last week

Ref was appalling- he really is the worst ref of the lot isnt he

Just a thought but Jenkinson's fitness has been an issue for me so perhaps get him to run around Croes girth fifty times might just improve it 👍

Think a few of us in agreement that Jenkinson and Moses can go back to their clubs at season end and no thanks we don't want them, both very very average footballers. Noble for me is slow and cannot be consistent in hit set piece play so again no room for him in first 11.
We are not too far short in overall squad and when all fit we will give anyone a game and that's all I want from my team.

Noble wasn't near taking any free kicks yesterday though

Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread
One thing that does frustrate me about Noble (and I know I'm not the only one) is his monopoly on set pieces. Would Zarate have even been allowed to take that free kick against West Brom if Noble had been there? And yet a succession of managers don't seem to address it. It does play into the idea of him being a bit of a difficult character, to be honest.

Personally I think Noble has a place even in our evolving squad - but only if he adapts to his new place within it. I actually think a lot of people would come to appreciate him a lot more if he was given a clear remit of being a cog within the wheel and stuck to it.

Sven - that all sounds very sensible. Which of course means it will never happen.

Co-owned players such as in Italy seems an even madder situation, but maybe that's just cause I don't really understand it. Remember Boriello? I seem to recall at the time he was loaned to us, he had spent almost his entire career as a Milan player while barely playing a game for them. You're right, it does make you wonder how it affects them mentally. There was actually an interview with Bojan in the Guardian ahead of the game this weekend in which he made that exact point - that while he was loaned out or on buy back deals from Barcelona he never quite felt able to settle at any one club. Kudos to him for recognising that and forcing through a move in the end, even if it did mean playing for Stoke.

I don't like to encourage you Rodfarts but Noble is hardly going to pull a hamstring is he bursting away from a defender.

Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
I'm not sure whether Jelavic was stretching to head it in but a defender was right behind him so he either needed to get a little flick on it or just jump into the defender & knock him into the net.
I am presuming doing that is ok because it's exactly what a Stoke defender did when Carroll had a late header. Went down with a head injury as he just head butted Carroll's shoulder.

In the end Jelavic effectively knocked it back to Kouyate who aimed for the only gap he could.

Rodfarts 3:24 Sun Dec 13
Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread
Why is it always the most dynamic, the quickest, the most skillfull in general the best players get injured for us??

Bar Carroll of course who is just a fuck up.

Ain't it great that players like Noble are rarely injured :-/

Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
I did say yesterday that last season Adrian wouldn't have got his foot to that late Diouf chance.

And how good would have that late chance had been as a winner.
Tomkins did brilliantly to hook that back and Jelavic effectively headed it off the line with a defender behind him and Kouyate did exactly the right thing aiming for the roof of the net but the lucky cunts escaped.
Shows the margins in these games. Again if Zarate's late shot was about 3inches left that was in as Butland hardly saw it.

I couldn't see it clearly from where I was but I assumed their guy got a touch. Shame it wasn't Carroll in that position.

Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
Well first of all I think the football authorities should do something about it. It's mainly a problem of allowing big clubs to stockpile players.
My suggestions would be
Each club restricted to say 30 (or whatever number) contracted professionals over 18
The wages of the loaned player being counted in the FFP wage total of the loaning club AND the loanee
No club be able to loan out more than 5 players in a season
No player to be allowed more than 3 loan spells while owned by one club

Personally I worry about the mentality of some loan players.
Moses is out on loan for the 3rd season in a row I think and Jenkinson his 2nd.
Both should have forced the hands of Chelsea and Arsenal and said I am good enough for you or I am leaving.
Jenkinson even signed a new contract. Obviously it's his business but I would have liked to have been in the position to say to him, force a move to us or we aren't interested.
As an interim Glenn Johnson on a free would have been an alternative. Showed yesterday he is still a better player than Jenkinson.

Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread
Sven,

My issue with loans is similar to yours - you're basically just pushing the problem on a window. So now, as well as improving on what we have we first still have to budget for 2 or 3 signings already next summer just to keep the same numbers. I'm confident (or optimistic) we can keep Lanzini, and I don't think anyone would argue that would be a worthwhile deal. I think someone (Bilic?Sullivan?) has suggested that Antonio is seen as the replacement for Moses which I'd be pretty happy with, but I agree we could get better value elsewhere than going back for Jenkinson again.

I don't like it really - if they do badly then obviously that's not good, but if they do well then you're basically just spending a season pushing up their price. Still, needs must I suppose.

Thought that was a very creditable result yesterday, particularly as we had our 4 best players unavailable. Even the top four teams would struggle with that. Leicester would struggle with Vardy and Mahrez out bi time.

Re: West Ham v Stoke City - Official Match Thread
Thought it was a decent game yesterday. Definitely a game that we would have lost last year so it's encouraging when we are not firing on all cylinders that we can grab a draw against a good side. Hughes has put together a decent squad there.

My only real gripe was the quality of the set pieces. I cannot understand how professional footballers can't beat the first man when taking a corner. It's not difficult to put a bit of air on it and aim it around the penalty spot, Sunday footballers can do that.

Plus when Tomkins had two throw ins later on and launched them long. Why was Jelavic the striker coming short? Surely that's Carroll's job to do that?

Bar the set pieces though it was a decent game. I do wonder though how many points Adrian has saved us though. Been a revelation.
